Complete Schedule

Three Governing Board of Directors Positions Available to New Members

To all Columbia Neighborhood Watch Block Captains and Neighborhood Coordinators:

This is to remind you of three important upcoming events.

First is a Columbia Neighborhood Watch training at 7pm Tuesday July 21 at City Hall.  This central location means that this is truly a city-wide training opportunity.  Please inform your untrained neighbors of this training if you can.  You can use the attached Training Info flyer to advertise the training if you wish.

Second, National Night Out is only three weeks away, on Tuesday August 2nd.  See the attached National Night Out flyer for details.  Please register your block event at:  http://columbianeighborhoodwatch.org/national_night_out.php

Third, we will have three Columbia Neighborhood Watch board openings to fill at our annual meeting at 6:30 pm Tuesday September 27th at City Hall.

Police Chief Ken Burton will speak at this meeting if his schedule permits.   The continuing board members include representatives from Arcadia, the Highlands, Parkade, Rothwell Heights, Thornbrook, and Vanderveen, and although we would like to hear from any interested applicants, we would also like to get some representation from additional  neighborhoods if possible.  Please see the attached CNW Board Positions document for more details.

Thank you for helping fight crime in our neighborhoods!

Geoff Gunnell, CNW board member, 4006 Iguana Dr., 817-0058, 999-7765, geoffg2@earthlink.net

At the Annual Meeting of CNW, which will be held on Tuesday, September 27,in the new City Hall building, as part of the agenda will be an election forthree board members to take the place of those members who have fulfilledtheir current three-year term on the board.  The board is comprised of ninemembers who may serve a maximum of two three-year staggered terms, which means that each year three board ‘seats’ turn over. As a not for profit volunteer organization, serving on the board is a great volunteerand leadership opportunity for neighborhood watch members.  The board meets aboutone hour per month, currently on the second Monday at 5:30 PM in the offices of aboard officer.  Board members are also expected to take "their turn" at assisting inoccasional training sessions for new members.  Senior board members take the"lead" in conducting these training sessions. If you would be interested in learning more about what is required to serve on theboard, we invite you to communicate with one of our "senior" board officers who iscompleting his fifth year on the board.  Send an e-mail to Dick Gray  DICKCOL34@gmail.comIf you would like to discuss it by phone with him, give your phone number and timeof day that would be best for him to contact you.
